**While the full salary range for the Energy Efficiency Technician position is $20.47 - $30.68 hourly, the anticipated starting salary is $24.50 hourly / $50,960 annually, plus benefits.**

The Weatherization Division provides income-eligible households in Adams and Arapahoe Counties with free conservation measures to help them conserve energy and save money on heating and cooling bills.

Weatherization is a process of installing energy conservation measures and energy-efficient appliance upgrades in a home to achieve long-term energy and cost-savings. The Energy Efficiency Technician position performs skilled energy conservation and weatherization measures to improve the energy efficiency and the health and safety of homes that have been determined eligible for home energy assistance. These upgrades also can help improve the comfort of a home by helping to moderate indoor temperatures during the changing seasons. Families who have weatherized their homes tell us they save anywhere from 10 to 30% on their energy usage.

Duties

The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or marginal duties that may be required. The County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of the job at any time.

DUTIES:

  • Receives job assignments from the Field Supervisor concerning weatherization and repair work necessary on each project; loads materials, travels to job sites, and performs necessary weatherization improvements that have been pre-determined on the energy audit form and approved work order.
  • Performs skilled work on each home including: weather stripping, caulking, carpentry, drywall repair, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, installation of insulation products, door and window repair and replacement, ductwork sealing and repair, storm window installation, venting installation and repair, and other necessary weatherization improvements on the homes.
  • Accurately accounts for all materials used on each project and provides proper documentation on required paperwork.
  • Properly uses and maintains assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Complies with all safety rules and policies to include proper use and maintenance of safety equipment and following established safe work practices.
  • Completes required administrative paperwork and reports, and submits as required.
  • Performs related duties as required and assigned.
Tech II
  • All duties of a Tech I
  • Reviews assigned work and ensures it aligns with actual conditions at each job site.
  • Identifies and addresses all opportunities to achieve maximum energy savings.
  • Checks for potential health and safety issues and ensures that they are documented and addressed.
  • Assists with Training and in the field leadership of Tech I associates.
  • Performs furnace efficiency tune-ups, combustion appliance safety tests.
  • May perform audits and final inspection when assigned.

Tech III
  • All duties of a Tech I and Tech II
  • Performs work and completes daily checks on each assigned crew(s) at their respective job sites..
  • Monitors and enforces safety compliance of crews to include proper use and maintenance of safety equipment and safe work practices.
  • Documents performance of subordinate staff and participates in employee performance evaluations.
  • Provides training and technical assistance to field crews as needed.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, vendors and clients.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical skills.
  • Knowledge of residential construction techniques.
  • Physical ability to perform strenuous labor.
  • Some knowledge of energy conservation techniques and practices.
  • Working knowledge of tools and materials required to accomplish weatherization improvements.
Tech II and Tech III
  • All Items listed for a Tech I
  • Ability to obtain and maintain program related certificates and qualifications at or above a crew leader level.
  • Ability to consistently produce high quality work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to effectively complete unit production goals for the program.
  • Extensive knowledge of energy conservation techniques and practices.
  • Ability and knowledge to perform minor plumbing, electrical, furnace and water heater repairs.
  • Tech III all items listed for a Tech I and Tech II
  • Ability to obtain and maintain advanced program related certificates and qualifications.
  • Ability to manage multiple crews on multiple jobsites.
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to perform plumbing, electrical, furnace and water heater repairs.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience in single family/mobile home/townhouse building maintenance or repair preferred
  • Experience specific to residential energy conservation a plus.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Building Performance Institute certification require within six (6) months of appointment into position.
  • Possession of a Colorado driver's license.
  • Must supply own hand tools. All power tools supplied by Arapahoe County
  • This position requires successful completion of pre-employment background, motor vehicle and physical capabilities
Supplemental Information

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is often performed in adverse weather conditions such as extremes in heat and cold, ranging from 0- 130 degrees, and in unconventional areas such as attics and crawl spaces where the required clearance may be 24 inches. Nature of work requires some exposure to dirty conditions and hazardous materials such as fiberglass, asbestos and lead-based paint..
COMPLEXITY / RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Work is characterized by the performance of standard weatherization improvements on client's homes, which may require the application of judgment in the problematic areas. Responsible for the County's equipment, tools, vehicles, and materials when working in the field.
SCOPE OF INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
  • Requires contact with wholesale and retail vendors, supervisors, co-workers, clients and the public. Public contact is heavy since repair work is performed in and around private residences.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position:
  • Spends 80-90% of the time upright, walking, crouching or kneeling while on the job.
  • Frequently climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, reaches, and handles while performing weatherization duties in cramped and unconventional work areas.
  • Must be able to safely function over extended periods while wearing personal protective equipment, including full-face respirator.
  • Frequently lifts, carries, pushes and pulls up to 35 lb. of insulation materials, oftentimes in a repetitive manner.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries, pushes and pulls up to 50 lb. Uses equipment to move heavier items.
  • Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication.
  • Constant use of eye, hand, and finger coordination while using tools and machinery.
  • Physical capability to safely operate County vehicles and equipment.
Definitions:
Occasionally: Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
Frequently: Activity exists between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
Constantly: Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time.
