Job Title: Medical Records Slide Specialist

Job Summary:

The position will provide medical records services to the Surgical Pathology Laboratory, a CLIA and CAP approved clinical laboratory. The Surgical Pathology Laboratory provides complete gross and microscopic examinations for all specimens and tissues submitted by the physicians of University Hospital and Clinics. Surgical Pathology subspecialties include:

  • Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology.
  • Breast Pathology.
  • Cardiovascular Pathology.
  • Dermatopathology.
  • Head and Neck (ENT)
  • Gastrointestinal Pathology.
  • Genitourinary Pathology.
  • Gynecologic Pathology.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • File pathology patient slides in correct order in filing system as cases are complete by pathologists in a accurate and timely manner.
  • Retrieve pathology slides from filing system as requested by pathologists, clinicians, and staff and approved outside institutions in a timely manner.
  • Track status of pathology slides sent to approved outside institutions and external institution pathology slides sent to University of Colorado Hospital for diagnosis / analysis.
  • Maintain regular Quality Insurance (QI) of outside institutions slides accessioned for University Hospital Pathology consultations.
  • Assists with retrieval and distribution for weekly pathology conferences.
  • Maintain and order AP / Surgical Pathology office supplies.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to position.
  • Certification related to the work assigned to the position may substitute for the required experience. Appropriate education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Two (2) years' of experience in an administrative role.
  • Experience calculating lab results and data using math and analytical skills.
  • Experience using MS Word and Excel. Preferred experience will include developing reports, spreadsheets, and databases using the mentioned software programs.
  • Experience entering data into an electronic system other than MS Office products.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
  • Experience purchasing and maintaining lab supplies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of professionalism, resourcefulness, tact, and diplomacy are essential.
  • Ability to organize workload and file correctly by alphabetical and numerical order.
  • Self-starter that demonstrates the ability to work individually with minimal supervision as well as part of a team of technologists, show proficiency at solving complex problems, and exhibit excellent computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse backgrounds which also includes experience working with students, staff, and faculty, within a higher education and/or academic medical environment.
  • Ability to understand complex rules, workflows, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to listen and follow precise protocols and written instructions.
  • Must possess a professional demeanor and have experience that demonstrates problem solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner and possess excellent time management, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to take direction and use independent judgment to coordinate and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and security compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $37,440-$43,156

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
